Curious about applying to Equilibrium?
Here's some information about what it's like to work with us.
We are a global team of engineers, cryptographers, and economists across 12 countries.
While we have aspirations to make an impact in the external world, our internal culture and the day-to-day lives we lead while working at Equilibrium Labs are equally important. We try to mold the company to fit our people rather than mold our people to fit the company. To achieve this, we do a number of things:
Why Work with Us
-
Strong Values
We bring together people from very different backgrounds united by a deep interest in blockchain and how it will shape society, and by a shared commitment to open source, freedom, and privacy.
We believe that Web3 technology has the power to transform industries and change the world, and we're committed to being at the forefront of this movement.
-
Maximize Learning
Working in a rapidly evolving industry requires a mindset of continuous learning. From internal knowledge sharing to running learning sessions with guest speakers, we encourage everyone at EQ to keep learning and provide opportunities to explore frontier technologies.
We also encourage you to attend relevant industry events to broaden your network and stay updated on the latest industry trends.
-
Minimize Hierarchy
We keep hierarchy light and avoid process for process’ sake. In practice, this means we have very few mandatory meetings, place a high level of trust and ownership on individuals, work async-first with Slack as our primary communication tool, and give people the freedom to choose the tools and working styles that suit them best.
-
Health and Flexibility
We take work-life balance seriously. We’re remote, flexible, and we invest in real human connection through regular retreats.
Common Questions
-
A typical workday is shaped largely by the project or role, yet some common elements exist across the company:
- Limited Calls: We emphasize minimizing calls to ensure that the majority of your time is dedicated to actual work.
- Remote and Asynchronous Work: EQ is designed for remote, asynchronous work, offering great flexibility in working hours and the choice of tools.
- Freedom and Responsibility: You have the freedom to structure your workday as you see fit, as long as you meet project expectations, complete your work, and attend necessary meetings.
- Team Communication: Communication with your team primarily occurs over Slack and occasionally through calls.
- Company-Wide Interaction: We have a variety of Slack channels for broader company-level communication on different topics. Additionally, there are a few company-wide calls scheduled weekly, monthly, and quarterly.
-
We specialize in the web3/blockchain sector, with all projects centered in this field. We work with a diverse range of clients from various industries, as well as with web3 ecosystems and platforms.
We have a strong preference for projects that contribute to open source and open technologies. Many of the projects we undertake are either already open source or are intended to become open source eventually.
-
Team sizes are generally kept between 2 to 6 people. We aim to avoid having single-person teams as well as overly large teams, although there may be exceptions depending on the specific role.
-
Every team member receives feedback each quarter to support ongoing growth and transparency. Depending on the project, the feedback is gathered from other team members, client and the management.
-
Equilibrium is designed for remote, asynchronous work, offering significant flexibility in working hours. We do not enforce specific core hours for when you need to be working or online. The only requirement is that you attend necessary meetings, the timing of which may vary depending on the project you are assigned to, and the work gets done.
-
Our team is based in European timezones, with a few exceptions. Clients predominantly come from European and American timezones. While we can't guarantee that everyone on your team will be in the same timezone, there is typically some overlap in working hours.
Given the remote work structure, self-direction and active participation are crucial. The ability to manage your own work independently, without direct oversight, is important, regardless of timezone differences.
